Fish market square

Fish market square Fish market square
This square has gone from being a historical place where fish was sold – a strategic sector of the city’s economy – to a place characterized by metaphysical views: Piazza Mercato del Pesce is an echo of tradition and monumentality.

Its appearance is due to the 1874 project of the Venetian architect Giambattista Talotti. The spectacular porticoes with round arches are arranged in an exedra around the fountain with Venus emerging from the waters of the sea, the so-called Anadiomene.

This scenic town square continues to play an important role in the community today, being the stage for cultural displays and events.
