Tower of San Giovanni

Tower of San Giovanni Tower of San Giovanni
This strategic sixteenth-century square tower constitutes a piece of the imposing coastal defensive system of watchtowers designed by Camillo Camilliani to face the Ottoman raids.

From its terrace the “torrari” (military men who guarded the tower) could easily communicate with the “tonnare” (tuna factories) of Bonagia and Monte San Giuliano, important places of production for the local economy that had to be protected.
