Scorace Forest

Driving along the provincial road, about 7 km east of the urban center of Buseto Palizzolo, you can see the Scorace Wood.

The toponym, Arcudacii or Arcodaci, refers to the Arabic farmhouse which was surrounded by a wooded area consisting mainly of cork oaks. Today, the wood reaches 750 hectares, and is located between 400 and 642 m above sea level. As a result of reforestation, in addition to oaks, pines, cypresses, eucalyptus and brambles grow on a rich undergrowth of Mediterranean scrub. Growing bushes of brooms, wild flowers, berries, arbutus, blackberries and blueberries, plums, hawthorn, the sting, myrtle and various aromatic herbs. Rare varieties of mushrooms also grow, including the black porcini of Scorace as well as the Amanita Caesarea (good ovolo) and the Macrolepiota procera (parasol mushroom).

There are also important fauna species such as wild boar, marten, porcupine, and various species of birds of prey, including the peregrine falcon, buzzard and kite.

Through a path in the wood you reach a small lake that precedes the top, in a panoramic area from which you can admire Bruca (hamlet of Buseto Palizzolo) the Archaeological Park of Segesta and the Inici, Sparagio and Montagna Grande mountains. The belvedere includes the Gulf of Castellammare and the Egadi Islands passing through the outline of Mount Erice: a breathtaking panorama.

The landscape changes according to the altitude, going from gentle hills to plains. The forest of Scorace is an unavoidable stop, provided with two equipped areas where you can have a picnic and take a break.
