Church of San Giuliano

Church of San Giuliano Church of San Giuliano
The Church of San Giuliano is one of the oldest churches in Erice. According to tradition it was built at the behest of the Great Count Roger the Norman to express his gratitude to the Holy Hospitaller who would help him in battle, but in fact it seems to date back to the early centuries of Christianity. It was a parish church.

Rebuilt between 1612 and 1615, its structure became more majestic with its three naves. In 1770 the bell tower was built, with a pagoda profile, which has become the element that characterizes the exterior of the church. The sacred building has been hosting for over a decade the groups of statues of the “Mysteries“, polymateric sculptures masterpieces of Trapani masters of the mid-eighteenth century, depicting episodes of the Passion of Christ that parade through the streets of Erice on Good Friday. In the sacristy are exposed furnishings of the church including the Repositorio, the work of the German Wolfang Huebuer, a masterpiece of silverware rococo Trapani.
