This grape variety is believed to have arrived in Sicily during the Arab domination, and it still thrives in the lands where the influence of the Arabs was strongest, namely the west of Sicily.
Its grapes have a delicate yet tough skin, with a yellow-green colour sunlit by the light of the land that nourishes its vines.
Used – if fortified – in the production of Marsala wine, the damaschino is used for the production of wines blended with other white grape varieties on the island, such as dry whites.
